Recorded Live Event from February 19, 2022
Black & Tan Hall joined the Black Heritage Society of Washington State and the Washington State Historical Society at MOHAI for an in-person presentation about the Negro Motorist Green Book Guide locally and nationally.
We gave an overview of our Seattle Green Book Tour, its development process, and the themes explored in this tour.
The event was recorded and is available to view for free. Click the button below to check it out!
The books below were critical resources for this tour. Cick on a book spine in the image below for more information (links go to Seattle Public Library catalog.)
The Library of Congress' Chronicling America free, digitized newspaper archive was invaluable to the research process, as was the Washington State Library's digitized collection of oral history interviews conducted by Esther Mumford.
Before the pandemic's outbreak, we also gathered information in-person at the Seattle Public Library, Seattle Municipal Archives, and the University of Washington Library Special Collections. Our thanks to the excellent library staff at all of these institutions.
We highly recommend some other stops along your way, whether you live in Seattle or are here as a visitor. This list also includes some online resources for further exploration:
